A long time ago Karolina show me how to use acai in recipes. It is a dark purple berry from the Amazonia jungle, it is very common in the North of Brazil. Acai tastes like wild berries, it looks like blueberries and has similar antioxidant properties. Also, acai berries are rich in fibre, protein and have high levels of healthy fats. Maybe now you can understand why acai bowl has become so popular.
We make this acai bowl recipe with frozen acai puree, banana, a bit of honey and orange juice, but you can use any liquid you wish. It literally takes 3 minutes to make this acai bowl recipe. I recommend that you use frozen acai, sometimes it is not that easy to find in shops so I usually buy it online at Amazonia. Powdered acai also works here but I personally prefer the frozen version!
I absolutely love this acai bowl, it is refreshing and satisfying. It feels like eating healthy ice-cream! I have made frozen fruit blends before but never got such a smooth or thick texture.
To make this acai bowl, simple add the four ingredients to a blender and blend away until you have a thick and creamy texture! Pour it into a bowl and bulk it up with some berries, granola, coconut or chia seeds; the options are endless.
For best results, use a high-powered blender like a Vitamix; Don’t blend it too much, the acai bowl should be thicker than a smoothie. We want it to have the same texture as ice-cream. It is perfect for breakfast or as a dessert. It will definitely leave you feeling refreshed. Enjoy!
