This healthy blueberry smoothie is one of my favourites; a well balanced mix of fruit and vegetables that tastes amazing. It is very refreshing while still rich in flavour. During the summer, smoothies are a great way to treat and hydrate yourself. It’s not unusual to see me around with one in my hand. But during winter blueberry smoothies may help our immune system.
The key to making smoothies quickly and whenever you need them, is to keep some of the ingredients in your freezer. Take them out 5′ before you start blending and your blueberry smoothie will have a much better texture.
In this blueberry smoothie you won’t be able to tell that it has spinach, the recipe is well balanced, it tastes really good while still providing vital nutrients to your body. Writing this post, the first thing that came in to my mind was Popeye and his spinach. In the cartoon, Spinach makes Popeye powerful and that’s also true for us mere mortals. Spinach is rich in calcium, iron and potassium while blueberries help us to fight infections; perfect for the cold winter months.
As you can see blueberries are gorgeous. But the other day I came across a surprising survey. Spain had the lowest consumption of blueberries in Europe? Why? I don’t know but I will post more blueberry recipes on the blog to change that. I hope that after trying my Blueberry & spinach smoothie you will start adding blueberries to your desserts, smoothies or to garnish your salads. You can also use them to make a Blueberry Jam with Chia Seed in 15′ (you can make this recipe with any berry).
